about

The little-known "rest of the story" concerning the legendary Lizard Man of Lee County, SC.

lyrics

From deep in the South where the possums ramble
Down in the swamp in the briar and bramble
Comes a tale that's known to me and you
Late at night on the Browntown road
A local man heard his tire blow
So he stopped to see what he could do
As he got out and tried to fix it
He was met by a local cryptid
And that creature gave him such a fright
He got back in and tried to flee
But the monster wouldn't let him be
Chased him down and jumped onto the car
He hit the brakes and the creature fell
And then it let out quite a yell
As the man drove off into the dark

Oh, poor old Lizard Man, he's just doing what he can
He never meant us any harm
He's just misunderstood, living out there in the woods
There ain't no cause for alarm
Poor old Lizard Man

Now here's the part that you may not know
About what took place on Browntown Road
And why that Lizard Man jumped on that car
He was late to a birthday party
For the Green Swamp Hag of Sumter County
And the walk to Sumter was too far
He thought if he could catch a ride
He could make it there in time
To spend the evening with his cryptid crew
He didn't know that he was frightful
He just isn't that insightful
But we know his motives, they were true

Oh, poor old Lizard Man, he's just doing what he can
He never meant us any harm
He's just misunderstood, living out there in the woods
There ain't no cause for alarm
Poor old Lizard Man

So if ever you should see him
Don't be scared or try to flee him
There's no reason you should be afraid
Maybe stop as you pass by
And ask him if he needs a ride
Or just smile and wish him a good day

Oh, poor old Lizard Man, he's just doing what he can
He never meant us any harm
He's just misunderstood, living out there in the woods
There ain't no cause for alarm
Poor old Lizard Man
